KANE ST. – OPUA
The site of this home presented significant challenges, with steep topography and access via an unformed paper road reserve. The home perches above the surrounding bush, capturing all day sun and striking views of Opua Harbour and marina. The owners desire for a significant garage to house a motor home and hobbies threatened to dominate the site, however by benching into the hillside and tucking behind the house, the garage is downplayed. The home projects forward of the garage, sky lining the site approach, grabbing the attention of the streetscape.
Once perched in the upper level above the treetops, a folded hip roof embraces and provides a sense of shelter, security and enclosure, which contrasts the exposure of wrap around decks from where the views are enjoyed from a choice of vantage points.
